I Love Research

Deciding where my Native American characters would go and how they’d get there took maps, visits, and long drives around Colorado to confirm they could actually get where they were going. I had to move mountains and pick new places for them to stay when I discovered the terrain was too rugged to work for the story-line I’d written. (Rewriting is less fun than researching!)

It was incredibly beautiful driving all over southwest Colorado. Strangely enough I learned more about the toughness of my characters in Brothers After All once I visited where they traveled.

Now that book one is complete, it’s appealing to write a series based in this amazing state! The photo below is from the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad ride. (Liz, the main character in Brothers After All) hiked up this RR bed along the Mancos River on her way to the Uncompahgre National Wilderness to escape the chaos after an EMP strike hit the U.S.

It’s a great story to read during Native American Heritage Month! Available in paperback and Ebook versions at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. So far it’s received all five star ratings, too.
